- Sit before the picture or idol of Santoshi Mata on a clean seat. Light a ghee lamp and incense, and offer a red flower and a little gud and chana if you can.
- Take a moment to settle the mind and, if you wish, make a simple sankalp (resolve) in your own words.
- Chant slowly and clearly. Many people chant 11, 21 or 108 times, using a mala of 108 beads to keep count. Others simply chant it a few times with full attention; both are acceptable.
